With an unconditional love for all animals and a knack at finding opportunities to have meaningful interactions with them, Marlene and her cat Mr. Gibbs share a very special connection. A volunteer ‘Cat Cuddler’ at PAW Rescue and K-9 Klips, Marlene socializes with cats in need of affection and human interaction. She also enjoys having tea at cat cafes with her friend Barbara and at the age of 86, still rides horses weekly!

One of Marlene’s goals was to assemble care baskets and donate one a month to various local animal shelters. To spread the love, effort went into researching unique or smaller shelters and the items each needed most. With their shopping list in hand, Marlene and her staff would put great care into shopping locally and finding deals. The basket would be dropped off at the shelter, giving Marlene the opportunity to meet some of the animals she was helping!

PAW Rescue, Cat Chance, Kelly’s Cat Cab, The Sarnia Humane Society, Big Fix Cat Rescue, and Greenview Aviaries have all benefited from Marlene’s efforts. With her eyes set on Charlotte’s Freedom Farm and Caregivers of Petrolia as her next recipients, she’s not done yet! A kind and generous soul, she has expanded her giving beyond her love for animals and contributes to other initiatives like the WDSS Kindness Project, Teksavvy’s Santa for Seniors, and the local Salvation Army. Thanks to Marlene’s generosity, she is truly building a brighter future for our local animals and the community as a whole.
